One of a Kind Vancouver Media Sneak Peek

Outerwear by Mara Gottler, one of the many vendors at this year's OOAK show

All aboard for Christmas in July! Even as temperatures climbed and sunshine made a rare appearance, all thoughts were of the winter holidays at last week's One of a Kind Vancouver media sneak peek. Paper snowflakes marked a path from the docks of Granville Island to the deck of an intimate two-hour cruise. Once on board, guests enjoyed a delicious spread from the Dirty Apron as well as cupcakes by SweeTease Cupcakes. Carols played and the tables were decorated with miniature Christmas trees to put attendees in a festive mood.

Amazing food aside, it was really the preview of the vendors at this year's OOAK show that I was looking forward to. As one of the largest craft fairs in Vancouver, OOAK features work by 300 designers, artists and indie crafters. It's a great place to shop for unique Christmas presents with everything from clothes and accessories to ceramics, toys and edible delights. (I should know: I went last year and had a terrible time trying to shop for others instead of myself! It's just that good.) Here's a small sampling of what 2011 has to offer.

Trudy Wynans's Toodlebunny and little sister label t o o d l e s are a perennial hit with Vancouver's stylish set. Her costume jewelry strikes the right balance between modern eclecticism and vintage charm.

Serving platters by Marge Margulies would add a colourful touch to any table.

Speaking of ceramics, how about these cool animal plates and bowls by Gabri Ellephant Design?

Gorgeous friend and jewelry designer Fiona Louie (Filou Designs) lent the event organizers some of her sterling silver pieces. OOAK's Ally is wearing two necklaces and a ring, all by Filou.

A big thank you to One of a Kind Vancouver and Heth PR for the invitation to the lovely event (and the advance reminder to consider OOAK for our holiday shopping needs)!

  2. Great post, Lisa! I'm so glad that you were able to make it. It's always a pleasure seeing you (whether it's at an event, or when I randomly run into you at the skytrain station haha). Awesome photos and glad to hear you had a good time! Thanks for the snowflake mention, I hope people didn't get lost haha. Hope to see you again soon! xo

  3. looking forward to this event. The ceramics especially looks cute.

I'm all about mini christmas trees since they are way less hassle and you could decorate each one to a different theme or block them all together for impact.
