MAC Vamplify Lip Gloss

A bold lip colour is the easiest shortcut in the book for looking glam in a hurry, and they don't come any bolder than the new MAC Vamplify lip glosses ($20 each). If you suffer from dry lips but adore pigmented lip colours like I do, do yourself a favour and swing by a MAC counter this weekend. I'm not usually a fan of lip glosses, but I adore this one. Lots more details and photos after the jump!

MAC Vamplify Lip Gloss

What it is: A hyper-pigmented lip gloss that's more akin to liquid lipstick.

Packaging-wise: This is your standard skinny lip gloss tube. The sponge applicator is set at a slight angle, and shaped like an oblong flat paddle with a pointed tip. Use the flat part to fill in your lips and the tip for a precise line.

Formula-wise: There's so much colour pigment that it's more akin to liquid lipstick than gloss. But unlike matte liquid lipsticks which can dry out lips, MAC Vamplify is comfortable all day long thanks to its hydrating natural oils. Some bleeding at the outer edges did occur around the 15+ hour mark, but that was probably because the skin around my lips was so dry it was sapping the moisture from the gloss and leaching the colour with it.

As the emollient ingredients were absorbed into the lips, the colour became stain-like with a muted shine, but no less pigmented. I found that if I didn't want the intensity of adding another coat of lip gloss, I could dab on clear lip balm and be just fine.

Shades-wise: 17 shades are available, including 3 online exclusives. They range from 'Spanky Haute' (a pinky nude) to pinks, brights, and deep, dark, vampy shades. The three I've swatched here are 'Modern Drama' (a dark plum that Lorde would approve of), 'She-Rebel' (a dark blue purple with shimmer...probably a little out there for my tastes), and 'A for Attitude' (a very flattering hot pink and my fave!).

Lazy girls will like it because: No lip liner, brush, or extra products necessary—it just takes one product and about 30 seconds to a minute to achieve an evening-ready statement pout. Plus, it's easy to change up your look to match your mood: Dark plum one day if you're feeling vampy and sultry, hot pink the next for a fun and flirty vibe.
