Cushion compacts have been all the rage in Korea for a while now, revolutionizing the way Korean women apply foundation and BB cream, but it wasn't until recently that I had the chance to try one for myself. Korean skincare and beauty brand Laneige just launched at Sephora Canada and invited me to try a handful of cult faves, including the Laneige BB Cushion SPF 50+ ($44). After using mine for the past month or so, I can definitely see what all the fuss is about. More about why the Laneige BB Cushion is Lazy Girl Approved after the jump!
What it is: A Korean BB cream in cushion compact form.
Packaging-wise: Laneige's parent company AmorePacific was the original inventor of the cushion compact, which explains why the Laneige BB cushion is so thoughtfully designed. The mirrored compact features a BB cream-soaked, sponge-like cushion in the middle; press the applicator puff to the cushion and apply the product to your face. The puff is anti-microbial and non-absorbent, which means it won't soak up precious product or make you break out. In between uses, the airtight cap (which doubles as a resting place for the puff) prevents the cushion from drying out. Aesthetically, the compact is sleek, white, glossy, and very portable.
Each Laneige BB Cushion also comes with a refill and a new puff. One cushion is soaked with enough product to last approximately 1-3 months depending on how often you touch up.
Formula-wise: The BB cream provides luminous, sheer coverage with SPF 50. It sits well on skin without emphasizing dryness or pores, and according to Laneige, also boasts hydration and brightening benefits.
Shades-wise: 4 shades—light (my shade), medium, medium-dark, and dark.
Lazy girls will like it because: Oh, let me count the reasons! The leak-proof cushion compact is easy to transport in a purse or a gym bag and great for touch-ups on the go. The anti-microbial puff eliminates the need to tote around (and regularly wash) an extra foundation sponge or brush. The cushion delivery system always dispenses just the right amount of product with minimal waste, taking the guesswork out of foundation application. The high SPF eliminates the need for me to wear an extra sunscreen, especially during dark winter days. I don't know how I'll go back to regular foundation after this.
This is such a pretty product -- but I feel like more often than not, powders cake on my dry face too much. Not sure about asian products though, this seems like it might leave a dewy finish.
