I turned the big 3-0 last Thursday, but the day passed as uneventfully as any other. Between everything that's been going on lately and feeling under the weather, I was honestly very grateful for a night at home watching Bones on Netflix. If I've learned anything as I enter a new decade, it's that sometimes the simplest pleasures are the best ones, and the same can be said of one's wardrobe.

Several closet purges (and a few consigned items) later, I think I'm finally getting a handle on shopping wisely. That's where this camel blazer comes into play: It's a versatile alternative to black, lending warmth to shades of grey and blue and dressing up the most casual tee, jeans, and sneakers combo. 25-year-old me would've scoffed at camel and gone for a bright orange version that'd probably get worn twice, or splurged on a twee printed frock instead. By contrast, 30-year-old me understands the appeal of neutrals and aspires to dress more like a woman, less like a girl.

  4. Happy belated birthday Lisa! I, too, try to buy things more on their longevity, versatility and forecasted price-per-wear rather than the excitement factor (designer-Target collections come to mind). I think shopping is like everything else in life - you don't always get it perfect but you learn through your mistakes and you get better and better at it.

Simple pleasures are definitely the best ones.

    1. Funny you should mention Target designer collabs: one of the pieces that didn't make the cut post-purge was a 3.1 Phillip Lim x Target top in polyester. I should know better by now; just say no to polyester.
