Boston: the birthplace of liberty, home of the Red Sox, Bruins, lobster rolls, Fenway Park, Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, and the oldest [insert any item you can think of here] in the United States. Perhaps the boy and I have seen one too many movies set in Beantown, but it struck us as the perfect vacation alternative to been-there-done-that New York, which is why we spent last week touring this fair city and surrounding parts of New England.

Lifetime Collective romper

My favourite looks from the One of a Few x Lifetime Collective fashion show are quite different, but both inspire in me a deep yearning for the carefree days of summer just waiting around the corner. The romper is an effortless day-to-night piece with a few styling tricks. And while the spaghetti straps and low neckline of the crop-top bustier don't work for my figure (hello, broad shoulders and full bust), it would look great on another girl, especially with white gaucho pants to offset its inherent sexiness.

Fingers crossed for more sunny days and warm weather.

Dior Cruise 2015 Beauty

Dior Cruise 2015 Beauty

Remember how excited I was to hear that Peter Philips was joining Dior beauty as creative director? Well, I think my excitement is justified in light of these just-released backstage beauty photos from the 2015 cruise collection. File this look under "wearable, elegant, pretty, with a hint of sleek modernity."

Style Nine to Five Launches in New York

Style Nine to Five founder Christie Lohr

Big things have happened since I last interviewed Style Nine to Five founder Christie Lohr 3 years ago. Her Canadian job search site has steadily cornered the market when it comes to connecting fashion industry job seekers with interested employers, and she's even launched a beauty-industry-focused offshoot. And just recently, Style Nine to Five has announced its expansion to New York! I caught up with Christie to get her take on the challenges of the Canadian vs. US market, the value of internships, and how to dress for different types of interviews.

Latest Outfit: Check, Please

Red and white check shirt with A-line navy skirt and black ballet flats
Old Navy shirt | Chinti and Parker skirt (from Oliver and Lilly's) | J. Crew belt and flats | Maison Birks earrings (c/o) | Lipstick: Dior Rouge 999

Despite being too busy in the past couple weeks to really dive into Boston trip-planning, traveling to the birthplace of the American Revolution must've been on my subconscious. How else would you explain this recent red, white, and blue ensemble? The skirt's even star-spangled thanks to the silver sparkles stitched into the navy twill. Ha!

Vancouver Loves Natural Beauty: Wing Yu of Green & Pure

Vancouver Loves Natural Beauty is a semi-regular column that highlights organic and natural beauty and skincare brands founded in our fair city.

Green & Pure natural and organic beauty store interior

Quick, think of all your favourite natural beauty emporiums. Bet most of them are in the middle of the city, aren't they? Luckily, newcomer Green & Pure is making it easier for Metro Vancouver's suburban populations to replenish their fave green products through its Richmond-based brick-and-mortar store and comprehensive website. Familiar brands like ILIA, Clarisonic, and Tata Harper share physical and digital shelf space with less common ones like JINSOON and Evie. I caught up with owner Wing Yu about the benefits of going all-natural and what sets Green & Pure apart from its competitors.

Latest Outfit: Lighten Up

White blazer, powder blue silk and cotton tee, grey statement necklace, faded cuffed jeans, nude pointy-toe ankle strap flats
J. Crew tee | RW&CO. blazer (c/o) | Banana Republic jeans | Benji Frank shades (c/o) | J. Crew Factory necklace | BCBGeneration shoes (from Style NV) | Longchamp 'Le Pliage' tote | Lips: Revlon Lip Butter 'Tutti Frutti'

Spring is half over and summer well on its way, but I'm not ready to trade jeans for sundresses and ballet flats for strappy sandals quite yet. My solution for these in-between weeks is a mixture of wear-all-the-time basics (jeans, tee, blazer, statement necklace) in a lighter colour palette. Of course, the right shoes anchor the look, and these BCBGeneration 'Tilda' flats from Style NV embody my in-between sartorial approach perfectly: slightly more open than a ballerina flat, but still close-toed. I love the updated d'Orsay shape with the thick ankle strap, three-stripe buckle detail, and pointed toe, as well as the versatile nude leather. They're a sophisticated shoe option for everyday, but especially those times when I'm between pedicures (shhh).

The Gold Standard in Concealers

Gold brush-tip concealer pens similar to YSL's Touche Eclat from Lise Watier and Estee Lauder

For 22 years, the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat luminizing concealer ($50) has been a legend, renowned for its creamy consistency, goof-proof application, and illuminating, flaw-blurring benefits. But in recent years, other brands have introduced their own versions of the cult fave. So are the new ones as good as gold? I test-drove two of them recently and was pleasantly surprised.

DIY Facial Night

As a self-confessed introvert and homebody, the prospect of a night home alone sounds like pure bliss. Throwing in a beauty treatment only sweetens the deal, and among the beauty treatments I can think of, a DIY facial ranks pretty high. The next time you find yourself at home with nothing to do, put on a girly movie (Clueless and Dirty Dancing are personal faves!) and indulge in some skincare TLC.

Latest Outfit: Fits to a Tee

Office casual look with blue and touches of leopard print
J. Crew vintage cotton tee, cafe capris, and belt | Benji Frank shades (c/o) | Roots bag (c/o) | Maison Birks earrings (c/o) | Calvin Klein shoes (from The Bay) | Lips: MAC 'Lady Danger' | Nails: Ceramic Glaze

As far as office-appropriate T-shirts go, they don't make them any better than J. Crew's vintage cotton tees. The lightweight, soft cotton drapes rather than clings, and the crewneck frames the face without showing too much skin. I personally like the black and navy ones best because they're not as see-through as the lighter colours. Paired with leopard, royal blue, real pearls, and a metallic leather carryall, the cotton tee is business casual made easy.

6 Essential Spring Outerwear Pieces

Oh spring, thou art a fickle season: blazing sunshine one day, blustery winds and sudden cloudbursts the next. It's no wonder we're still reaching for lightweight jackets and scarves even after the winter coats have been dry-cleaned and put away! If you're just starting to build your outerwear wardrobe, these are the core pieces that will work overtime during the warmer months.

Product Review: MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Pressed Powder

MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Pressed Powder ($41) is the sort of product every girl should have, even if you think you don't need it. Liberal applications of this high-definition translucent powder promise to blur imperfections and mattify skin. But even a small dusting sets makeup, takes away the slightly tacky texture of liquid and cream products, and prevents stray hairs from sticking to your face. In the case of MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Pressed Powder, the proof is in what you don't see: this finishing powder is undetectable even to high definition lenses, let alone the naked eye. Consider it a good bet to add to your summer beauty shopping list.
