Latest Outfit: The Blues

A mix of blue pieces for spring: tweed moto jacket, heart intarsia sweater, cuffed jeans
J. Crew sweater and flats | Gap tweed moto jacket | Banana Republic jeans | Chanel bag | KOMONO 'Bonnie' shades (c/o) | Nails: Dior Vernis 'Porcelaine'

Ah, these tricky early days of spring! I'm so eager to dry clean and put away the winter coats, but so wary of being caught in unexpectedly chilly temperatures. The solution seems to be light layers and lots of them. On an admittedly warmer than average day, I wore a lightweight wool sweater over a heat-retaining cami and topped it off with a cotton moto jacket. The cuffed jeans—and the sliver of ankle they revealed—were a nod to warmer days ahead without making me too cold.

Product Review: Cover Girl Lipslicks Smoochies Lip Balm

Cover Girl Lipslicks Smoochies Lip Balm

I probably like Cover Girl Lipslicks Smoochies Lip Balm ($5.99 at London Drugs) much, much more than I should because it's such a fun nostalgic throwback to my younger days, when Lip Smackers and cherry ChapStick were my lip products of choice.

Casual spring outfit inspiration

Whether Sunday's sunshine whetted your appetite for more, or you never want to hear the words "polar vortex" again, surely we can all agree: At this time of year, we'd rather put the winter coats away and let our lighter layers come out to play. Stripes, denim, and bright pops of colour are effortlessly parfait for picnics in the park or coffee with friends. For finishing touches, add a pair of oversize shades and a luxe pendant.

Latest Outfit: Newly Minted

Army jacket, mint sweater, black skinny jeans, cognac leather ankle boots

"Burnout": Not a word I'm fond of, especially in the last few weeks. Waking up is a little harder each day, media previews and events feel like less of a pleasure, and blogging after a long day of work—or simply mustering up the energy to be social—takes enormous will and energy. While I haven't reached true burnout yet, I could feel myself inching closer to it gradually.

Dior Addict Fluid Stick

Dior Addict Fluid Stick

While I love experimenting with new colours and products, deep down I'm a little envious of the chic minimalists who have a signature lipstick for which they're known. It takes bravado to know oneself so well and exercise such restraint. But even the sternest minimalist ought to make room in her beauty kit for the new Dior Addict Fluid Stick ($36), which hits the Bay April 2014 and other Dior counters May 2014.

Revlon by Marchesa Beauty Tool Collection Giveaway

Revlon by Marchesa Beauty Tool Collection

Remember last season's Revlon by Marchesa nail appliqu├ęs, the ones that sent beauty lovers and fashion fans running to their local drugstores? Well, there's a new collaboration this spring, and trust me when I say you're going to want to get your hands on this one. The Revlon by Marchesa Beauty Tool Collection features feminine lace motifs inspired by dresses straight from the spring/summer 2014 runway. Available in black, navy, and blush pink, the tools retail for less than $20 a pop and would make lovely additions to any vanity or travel makeup bag.

Let's take a closer look at each piece in the collection, shall we?

Lise Watier Spring 2014

Lise Watier Spring 2014

Canadian cosmetics and skincare brand Lise Watier wants you to dream a little dream of spring. Think soft pinks, subdued grays, and muted blues inspired by the first few tenuous days after winter, when blossoms start appearing but clouds and rain still mar the horizon.

Latest Outfit: Plenty for Spring

Blue textured moto jacket worn with a loose white tee

A textured moto here, brightly coloured pumps there...if a girl isn't careful, her predilection for standout items is bound to leave her with a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear. Basics are important, which is why I admire west coast retailer Plenty's back-to-basics approach to dressing this spring.

Last weekend was, quite simply, one of the best I've had in a long time. The boy and I went down to Coupeville to check out the Penn Cove Mussel Festival, aka an excuse to hang out in Coupeville, WA, and soak up the quaint small town atmosphere while gorging on the tenderest, sweetest mussels imaginable.

Product Review: Mary Kay Skinvigorate Cleansing Brush

Mary Kay Skinvigorate Cleansing Brush

Rediscovering the Mary Kay Skinvigorate Cleansing Brush ($60) in my treasure trove of beauty samples was a stroke of skincare serendipity. My complexion's been going through a rough patch—literally and figuratively—whether because of stress, too much takeout, or a severe flu followed by a nasty cold. I'd been contemplating the Clarisonic and hesitating over the cost when I uncovered the Skinvigorate.

Peter Philips Joins Dior Makeup

Beauty look from Raf Simons for Jil Sander Fall 2011: Jade cat eye liner, cherry red lips

Remember this beauty look? It's from Raf Simons for Jil Sander Fall 2011, and was so popular when it debuted that beauty editors immediately declared it one of their favourite looks from the season's runways. It was certainly my favourite—I even blogged about it—and to this day remains one of the most memorable. Season-less, classic, modern.

Latest Outfit: Spring Awakening

Army jacket, polka dot sweater, octagon oversize sunnies, and touches of red
Madewell 'Outbound' jacket | J. Crew Factory sweater | Gap 1969 Always Skinny jeans | Maison Birks pearl earrings (c/o) | KOMONO 'Bonnie' shades (c/o) | Roots bag | J. Crew flats | Lipstick: MAC 'Lady Danger' | Nails: Dior Vernis 'Porcelaine'

Do you have pieces in your wardrobe that are always in the hamper because as soon as they reach the "clean" pile, you're dying to wear them again? That's how I feel about this sweater and the reason why it's only making its blog debut now. For the past couple months, I've been pairing it with skinny jeans and boots or tucking it into skirts. Yesterday, I wore it with an army jacket (a pre-requisite for living in hipster-y Mt. Pleasant), oversize-with-an-octagonal-twist sunnies, and a few touches of red for what turned out to be a glorious spring day. Fingers crossed for more sunshine, warmer temperatures, and lots of spring blooms!

Product Review: Cover Girl Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara

Cover Girl Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara

Longtime readers of this blog know that I'm not a fan of gimmicky mascaras that don't work and I'm big on smudge-proof formulas. Cover Girl Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara ($11.99 at London Drugs), I'm sad to say, is a gimmicky mascara that doesn't work, and smudges more than other tried-and-true LashBlast mascaras.

Bar Cart on a Budget

One of my favourite projects this past winter was setting up our bar cart. We've been enjoying it ever since, whether it's a chicken wing and G&T night while watching Netflix, or having friends over for impromptu Moscow mules.

Latest Outfit: Wintry Blues

A cobalt blue cocoon coat brightens up a black-and-white colour-blocked sweater dress and navy rain boots.
J. Crew coat | Tibi sweater dress | Forever 21 leggings | Joules wellies | Coach city bag

Although some (most?) style bloggers seem intent on accumulating as many clothes and accessories as possible, for the past few years I've been trying to shop smarter and buy less. The result—a streamlined wardrobe of things I love to wear—makes getting ready in the mornings a breeze, but it also makes for repetitive outfits. The coat, the bag, and the rain boots have all been on heavy rotation this winter. And even though this black-and-white colour-blocked sweater dress is only making its blog debut now, trust me when I say it's one of my go-to pieces on weekdays.
