Life Lately

I've been so busy with beauty and bridal posts lately it seems like ages since I've filled you in on what's happening with me personally. Here's a glimpse.

3 Long-lasting Nail Polishes

Three long-lasting nail polish systems put to the test: CND Vinylux, Essie Gel Couture, Sally Hansen Color Therapy

I adore the shine and chip resistance of a gel mani, but not the drawbacks: the expense, the weakened nails, the growth lines in two weeks, having to return to the salon to get it removed properly. The next best thing? A long-lasting formula that delivers gel-like shine and durability, but comes off with normal nail polish remover and is affordable to boot. I tested three such nail polish systems in the past few weeks—details after the jump!

Happy Monday, dear readers! Here at Solo Lisa headquarters, things weren't too productive on the weekend: The boy and I were trying to take it easy before his upcoming work trip and we binge-watched Stranger Things on Netflix in a single sitting. (So good!) But I did get a chance to peruse the Nordstrom anniversary sale catalogue and pick out all of my favourites to share with you today. Read on for all the details, plus tips on how to shop the sale strategically!

Buy Now, Wear Now: 30+ Nordstrom Summer Sale Picks

Shopping sales as an aspiring minimalist is tricky business. My style strategy for avoiding missteps: I only buy something if it sparks that "I can't wait to wear it right away" sense of joy; it complements my casual denim- and neutrals-heavy wardrobe; and it might let a worn-out staple retire. In anticipation of the major Nordstrom anniversary sale starting in just a few days, I couldn't resist peeking at the Nordstrom women's summer sale where I found plenty of pieces that ticked all the boxes. These wear-all-the-time staples will take you through summer into fall and beyond.

Bridal Style: Stepping Up My Skincare

5 natural skincare products brides can add to their routine before the wedding day

We're at T minus two months until our wedding day, which means it's crunch time for all the last-minute nuptial details, but at the same time, it's still far away enough that any oomph I add to my pre-wedding skincare routine now will pay off in dividends. The products I'm incorporating into my current regimen are all natural (bonus!)—highly effective but gentle enough to not trigger any adverse reactions. My MO? Hydrated, glowing, radiant, even-toned skin.

My Sunscreens This Summer

A round-up of beauty-blogger approved sunscreens from Avene, Coppertone, Olay and Rocky Mountain Soap Co

As I mentioned in my last post about sunscreen, this summer I have several sunscreens on rotation depending on my mood and my needs. Each of these formulas is different and impressive in its own way, but they all have one thing in common: They absorb quickly and feel comfortable on the skin.

How To Make Hydrangeas Last Forever

White hydrangeas against a white background

As soon as the too-short peony season is over, it's all about hydrangeas here at Solo Lisa headquarters. These summery blooms are so pretty and voluminous that it doesn't take more than a few snipped stems to fill a vase and make a statement. Plus, with a little TLC they can easily last ages without wilting, even in a sweltering apartment sans air conditioning. I've had the white hydrangeas above for 2+ weeks and they still look as good as they did when I brought them home from the florist, which is surreal considering a couple years ago, any hydrangeas I bought would shrivel in just a couple days. All my tips after the jump!
