New & Noteworthy: Givenchy Rouge Interdit Lipstick

Flatlay featuring Chanel black lambskin camellia embossed wallet on chain WOC, black matte J. Crew statement necklace, Givenchy Rouge Interdit red lipstick

When a sample of the new Givenchy Rouge Interdit Satin Lipstick ($40) crossed my beauty blogging desk, I have to confess I was fully prepared not to like it. After all, is there room for yet another luxe lipstick in an already crowded marketplace? The answer, as it turns out, is yes—especially when the packaging details are so thoughtfully executed and the formula wears so superbly. All the details after the jump, plus the scoop on how you can win an exclusive prize from Givenchy Fragrances & Beauty Canada at the bottom of this post!

Ribbon detail on the case of Givenchy Rouge Interdit

Givenchy Rouge Interdit bills itself as a smooth, long-wearing lipstick that's more objet d'art than mere lippie, and it's easy to see why. The sleek black case is dressed in silver and ribbon detailing down the front and back, with "Givenchy" stamped in silver letters on one side. A small ribbon loop on one end makes it easy to pull out of the tube. And just look at the logo embossed on the red bullet! Givenchy Rouge Interdit is available in 20 shades, including a marble-ized shade that seems to be sold out at Sephora currently; the one I received for review is 13 'Rouge Interdit', a true red that swatches slightly blue-based on the hand but reads warmer when applied on the lips.

Formula-wise, it ranks up there with my fave lippies of all-time. First of all, it applies beautifully straight out of the tube: the bullet is cut to create a precise lip-line and it's so emollient with so much slip, it feels like wearing lip balm. The hyper-pigmented formula has a creamy, satiny sheen that's more flattering than a matte shade (which can make a winter-pale complexion look more lifeless and haggard). And this might just be my imagination, but the way it reflects light makes lips look subtly fuller.

I wore Givenchy Rouge Interdit last Sunday through a bento box lunch, a cappucino, multiple glasses of water, gummy candy snacking, and a takeout pizza dinner while watching the Oscars relatively intact. (Side note: my eating habits were complete rubbish the day I test-drove this lippie.) None of the pigments settled into fine lines, bled, or feathered even though I wore the lipstick for 12+ hours sans lipliner. And while the colour did kiss off on my coffee cup and drinking glasses, I only needed one touch-up halfway through the day. My lips didn't feel tight or dry and I didn't have to resort to layering lip balm or gloss on top of the colour once. (This is huge considering I always have dry lips, and Vancouver's been going through an unusually harsh winter!) By the time I had to wash my face at 11:30pm, my lip colour was still intact.

Beautiful packaging, long-lasting colour, easy to apply straight from the tube, and a formula that's ridiculously comfortable to wear: Givenchy Rouge Interdit ticks all the boxes as far as a perfect lipstick is concerned.
