Newly Reformulated Dior Addict Lipsticks: Photos & Review

Dior Addict lipstick with new hydra-gel core

Remember my last Dior post where I promised the lowdown on all the fall 2015 launches? Well, it turns out I was unintentionally lying to you all, dear readers, because right as I was putting that post together another piece of beautymail was winging its way to me, bearing the newly reformulated Dior Addict Lipstick ($42, available now at all Dior counters and The Bay). Shall we take a closer look? Many more details and photos after the jump!

The new Dior Addict lipsticks feature a monogram hydra-gel core throughout the entire length of the bullet, and boast a bevy of oils that claim to hydrate, deliver intense top-coat-like shine, and lock in colour. You might be reminded of the limited-edition Dior Addict Tie Dye lipsticks from the summer 2015 collection because those had colour-contrast monogram cores, but the comparison stops there. The new Dior Addict lipstick is a permanent addition and the formula feels completely different.

Swatched out, they look pretty unassuming—sheer colour and lots of shine—but a true appreciation of the innovative texture only develops after all-day wear. I've never tried anything quite like it. The new Dior Addict lipstick has the weightlessness of a gel formula with the hydration of a good lip balm. It's light where wax-based lipsticks feel heavy, slippery where lip glosses feel sticky and lip balms might get goopy, moisturizing where a purely gel- or water-based formula feels...inadequate.

What's more, as you reapply during the day, each coat looks as good as the first. My gripe with ultra-pigmented lipsticks (and heck, even tinted lip balms) is that the emollient ingredients are absorbed super-quickly into the lips, leaving behind colour pigments that settle into fine lines and look increasingly cakey. It's why I switch to clear lip balm mid-day when I'm wearing lipstick sometimes; I need the hydration more than the colour replenishment. Not so with Dior Addict, which positively floats on top of lips no matter how many coats you slick on.

The Dior Addict lipstick case has changed too: it's sleeker and has a holographic sheen, and the "Dior" typeface looks more modern. An interior magnet allows the lipstick tube to slide in and out of the casing with ease.

Now, the only question is, which shade will you choose? There are 44 in total, 4 of which I'm showing you today. 'Smile'—a "like your lips but better" pink—is purportedly a staple of Dior Addict spokesperson Jennifer Lawrence.

By contrast, 'Be Dior' is a bolder purple-y fuchsia.

And then there's 'Tribale', the sort of coral that can complement a summer tan or brighten a winter-pale complexion.

'Wonderful' has more shimmer and a darker pink hue than 'Smile'.

In many ways, I think of the new Dior Addict lipsticks as being a lipstick for millennials. The sheer-and-shiny formula makes for more spontaneous, easy, fuss-free application sans mirrors and it's got Jennifer Lawrence as a spokesperson. But it's also a great daily-wear formula for all ages, especially if—like me—you crave light colour and hydration in a single product, and a lipstick that looks as good at night as it did in the morning.

Will you be trying the new Dior Addict Lipstick?

  1. Be Dior looks amazing. It's been years since I tried Dior lipstick (my first and only tube was a present from my mother); this may be a good place to re-start.
