New This Month: Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss

Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss

There was once a time when you couldn't pry the matte lipstick out of this beauty junkie's hands. These days though, you'll find me wearing soft shades and clear lip balms a lot more often, which is why the newly launched Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss ($36 at Dior counters, Sephora, Holt Renfrew, and The Bay nationwide) is more appealing than ever. The formula delivers ultimate shine and hydration with a volumizing, plumping effect—all with zero stickiness. More photos and details after the jump!

My number one pet peeve with lip glosses has always been the stickiness. Not so with Dior's though: the new Ultra-Gloss feels comfortable and feather-light with plenty of slip thanks to its mirror-shine stretch oils, and it minimizes fine lines by plumping and volumizing lips. It's as easy to wear as your favourite lip balm.

All of Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss's virtues aside, I have to admit that super-shiny, super-sparkly lip glosses aren't exactly my cup of tea. They remind me of my clubbing days in the early 2000s when I'd slick on the shiniest, stickiest, vanilla-scented glosses to go with my smokey eyeshadow and vertiginous platform heels. Rather than wearing the Ultra-Gloss solo all over my lips as I might've used to, I can see myself layering it over darker, more matte lip colours or dotting a bit on the centre of my bottom lip for a fuller pout.

The shades are sheer with lots of sparkle and shimmer. I laid it on pretty thick with the swatches below to show the difference: 'Princess' (a "My Lips But Better" pink); 'Shock' (similar to 'Princess' but with a more fuchsia undertone); 'Mirrored' (a bronze-y hue that goes well with sun-kissed skin); and 'Gems' (a transluscent pink shimmer that's light on the pink and heavy on the shimmer).

If super-shiny, sparkly lip glosses aren't your thing either, the brilliant thing about Dior is there are a bevy of options for "My Lips But Better" pink lippies. I'm a huge fan of the newly reformulated Dior Addict Lipstick with its hydrating gel core and the Dior Rouge Brillant Lip Gloss, which like the Ultra-Gloss has plenty of slip and shine with zero stickiness.

Here they are swatched for your comparison pleasure. The Dior Addict Lipstick's texture is akin to a super-shiny tinted lip balm. The Dior Rouge Brillant Lip Gloss is more pigmented than the Ultra-Gloss—which is the sheerest, shiniest, and sparkliest of the three.

    1. Isn't it? Rouge Brillant was a revelation for me: it was the lip gloss that turned me back on to lip gloss.
