It's that time of year again! Every year Christmas seems to start earlier and earlier (my first holiday party this year is on November 19). But it's not so bad when you can admire decorations in stores, enjoy an eggnog latte or two, and there's an all-gold-everything Dior winter collection to thrill beauty lovers everywhere. I've been blogging about these collections since 2013 but their luxe glamour still delights me every time. This season, the Dior Holiday 2016 Splendor Collection was inspired by "the artistry of Dior ateliers with sparkling sequins." I've got a little sneak peek at what's available at Dior counters nationwide right now. Ready for a closer look?
The Splendor collection's sequined, haute couture inspiration is most evident in the Dior 5 Couleurs Splendor eyeshadow palette ($73), shown here in 776 'Precious Embroidery'. Check out the exquisite embossing that looks like densely packed, handsewn sequins.
For a holiday eyeshadow palette, the shades—a mix of mauve, dark and medium brown, champagne, and white—are surprisingly wearable for everyday. (The other Splendor palette which is not shown here, 066 'Smoky Sequins', features a range of charcoal greys from light to dark, a splash of gold, and a white highlighting shade.) Consider it the dressed-up version of your everyday nude eyeshadow palette. Actually, come to think of it, these shades with their velvety metallic finishes would play very nicely with matte neutrals. If you'd rather stick to the shades in-palette though, check out these tips from Diorshow national artist Pascal Grand'Maison on making the most of your Dior eyeshadow palette.
Most holiday collections focus on vampy plums and reds when it comes to lip colour, so I was pleasantly surprised at the lighter shades in the Diorific Mat lipstick range ($46 each). Below are 560 'Ravissement' (a matte petal pink guaranteed to perk up a winter-pale complexion) and 065 'Golden' (a sheer shimmery gold that looks phenomenal layered over other lip colours). Both lipsticks feel great on the lips: they have plenty of slip like a lip balm and aren't drying at all. And of course, there's that stunning gold lipstick case that's sure to elicit compliments at your next holiday party.
If neither of these shades is your cup of tea, there's also 440 'Charm' (a lighter petal pink), 880 'Fascination' (a cool, dark, plum), and 950 'Splendor' (a classic red that has a matching nail polish shade of the same name). I didn't receive any PR samples of the latter shades, but considering the quality and luxe vibe of Dior's holiday lippies, if any of these pique your interest you should definitely stop by the nearest Dior beauty counter and ask about them.
And last but certainly not least, the nail polishes! After all these years I still love how the round, gold-topped bottles of Diorific Vernis ($34) mimic the look of Christmas ornaments, but for your vanity. What's inside the bottle is just as good as the exterior too: The easy-to-use, densely bristled paddle brush on all of Dior's nail polishes makes professional-looking DIY manis a cinch, and the long-wearing, high-shine formula lasts 5+ days without chipping. No wonder I'm always reaching for the Dior polishes in my stash when it's time to do my nails.
I can't wait to do my first holiday-inspired #manimonday of 2016 with 850 'Splendor' (a classic red with stealth shimmer) and 001 'Nova' (a white iridescent glitter that looks like it came straight from the inside of a snow globe). You'll have to check my Instagram for that one!
The most intriguing part of the Dior Holiday 2016 Splendor Collection is sadly a product for which I have no sample: Diorific Matte Fluid ($47), a velvety matte colour to be used on cheeks and lips, housed in a beautiful little tube that looks kind of like a cocktail shaker. I've had plenty of experience with Dior's eyeshadows, lipsticks, nail polishes, and illuminating powders in their holiday collections, but this hybrid product is completely new. I may have to swing by the beauty counter soon to check it out.
And with that, holiday season has officially begun on Solo Lisa! Do you see anything you like in this collection?
