Emma Watson's Sleek Golden Globes Look

Emma Watson's Golden Globes 2014 Dior outfit from the front and back

I don't ever post about red carpet fashion, hair, or beauty, but I'm breaking all the rules today to comment on Emma Watson's Golden Globes 2014 look. Her coral Dior dress-meets-pants combo was a sleek and modern standout in a sea of gown-clad actresses. The entire outfit is minimalist perfection, all complemented by polished hair and makeup.

Emma Watson's Golden Globes 2014 chignon hairdo from the side

To go with the dress's dramatic back, Vidal Sassoon Pro stylist Shelley Brien created a classic chignon with a contemporary twist. I like how it looks groomed yet artfully undone at the same time, with the deep side part, wispy bits, and loose locks tucked behind her ears.

Brien first sprayed Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Heat Protect & Shine Spray on damp hair, then blow-dried it smooth with a medium-sized boar bristle round brush. Once dry, she created a deep side part and sprayed Vidal Sassoon Pro Series ColorFinity Dry Shampoo in Rich Darks in the roots to create extra volume. Next, Brien backcombed the hair near the front to create texture and brushed it smooth before pulling Emma's hair back into a low ponytail. Finally, she wrapped the hair into a bun and pinned it in place, and pulled out a few pieces of hair in the front. The look was finished with a few spritzes of Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Flexible Hold Hairspray.

Of course, the sophistication's in the other details too. Those brows! That subtle taupe-grey smoky eye! Those rose lips! That solitary earring! Love.

  1. Iol whenever it's cold outside I always wear shorts or pants under my dress or skirt. This outfit is amazing in that way.

    1. What really impresses me is how chic this is. Usually when I think of someone wearing pants under a dress, the effect is kind of schlubby.

  2. I've seen so many pictures of her gown but never knew until now that there were trousers under it!
Stunning! And her hair and makeup is perfection!

    1. Someone else commented on their blog about how this was a boring, nothing-special dress, but I suspect it's because they only saw it from the front.

  6. I know she got a lot of flack for that dress, but I really like it. It was definitely chic and sophisticated without being stuffy. The color isn't my favorite, but she pulled it off beautifully. Plus, I get so board when every actress ends up looking exactly the same: strapless, long dress blah blah blah.
