Today's Outfit: A Night At The Ballet

Eleven years ago, I saw the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's production of Dracula and absolutely adored it--the dancing, the Gustav Mahler score, the costumes and stage sets. So when I heard the RWB was returning to Vancouver with another full-fledged original story ballet, Moulin Rouge, I knew I had to go. I suggested it as a date to the boy and he agreed because he'd never been to a ballet before. Tickets were bought, plans were made, and on Friday night we found ourselves in a packed theatre waiting impatiently for the curtain to rise. The ballet exceeded all of our expectations with its storytelling and beautiful choreography. The film's storyline was rewritten for the ballet so that the story remained fresh while still incorporating many of the elements that fans of Baz Luhrmann's film are familiar with. The boy loved it so much he's curious about the film now. Perhaps a night in with some takeout and a DVD will be our next date?

  1. chic outfit lisa! I love how you wore the teal tights under the lace tights. I've done that before but with hot raspberry pink shimmer tights under fishnets for a dress up event thing hahaha, so not the same, and yours definitely looks better! glad you and the boy had a fun time at the ballet, way to culture him ;)

p.s. would love to see this brocade jacket of yours!

  4. Sounds like a fab date.

Love the outfit and would have never guessed that the dress was from forever 21 (looks uber expensive). I especially love how you wear your boots here. The whole outfit works so well together.

PS I still remember going to see the Dostoevsky's The Overcoat. Years later its still stuck in my head.

  7. I'm jealous of that gorg dress and your night at the ballet. I'm dying to go again! We usually make it to the Nutcracker but I don't know if it's happening this year.

  8. Love your outfit!! My boyfriend and I went to watch Chicago a couple years ago and decided to go regularly to musicals but it never happened! I'd love to drag him to a ballet as well... where do you find event listings for those?

  9. ko0ty, I actually saw an ad for Moulin Rouge in the printed program for Bard on the Beach ages ago. Otherwise, I just find out about plays and musicals from ads on the sides of buses. :P

  21. cute outfit! i'm glad you guys had a great time at the ballet. i thought about going, but i generally chastise dancers (serious dancers), so i didn't want to be a hypocrite. haha.
