Top Secret No More

The Sexy Back bra, $36

Two weeks ago, I was tipped off about Top Secret bras via a press release from New York. This new line of Supplex bandeau-style bras is designed by Andrea and Michelle Varat, two sisters from Miami whose family has a background in clothing manufacturing and design. According to the website bio, the Varat sisters came up with Top Secret after Michelle travelled to Brazil and saw the practical, stylish bandeau-style bras Brazilian women wore under their tops and dresses.

Unlike other types of bras, Top Secret bras are meant to be seen. The scalloped straps on the Lacey's Secret bra lend allure to off-the-shoulder tops, while the Sexy Back bandeau's lace detailing can add visual interest to a backless dress. When worn under a deep V top, or perhaps this AA cotton spandex jersey deep U dress, the Shine On Me bandeau's satiny fabrication is quite eye-catching.

Shine On Me bra, $44

Top Secret is available at Fred Segal (among many other locations), and has been spotted on celebrities like Hilary Duff and Kate Hudson. Seeing Hilary and Kate rock these bras in their warm weather ensembles makes me think summer can't arrive quickly enough!

  7. Lauren, I think the website (www.topsecretsociety.com) has a full listing of retailers that carry their bras. You can also order directly from the website.

  8. neat. The one thing I worry about is that I usually wear a heavily underwired and padded bra, so I don't know if the bras would work on me.

  12. Bras that can be exposed? I am aghast and charmed by this concept.

I've never been one of those girls able to wear a light cami without a bra, so this is a lovely idea for warmer weather.

  14. I see what you mean by how these one are so much better than the 9to5 ones in the Globe & Mail! I could definitely use a bandeau bra for my backless dress hehe

  16. These are so cool, perfect for these Wang-esque tanks I got from Forever 21... the arm holes are cut really low, but with these bras peeking out it wouldn't look bad at all!

  20. I love these! American Apparel have some bandeau "bras" that are cute, problem: they have no support. I love that these are real bras AND can be seen! I'll be keeping my out for things similar across the Atlantic.

  22. Nice and soft, just right fit, not too tight and not loose at all, stays up, no pulling or sliding either way, don't know how I went so long without them. good quality fabric, recommend highly. I bought two of them the short version and the wider version. I purchased bra at http://www.apparelnbags.com/barely-there/index.htm
