Dior 5 Couleurs Mystic Metallics Eyeshadow Palette in 'Bonne Etoile'

With a constant influx of beauty products to test and review, sometimes limited editions fall through the cracks and I don't get around to posting about them until too late. But of the times I have done this, I've never felt as much regret as I do with the Dior 5 Couleurs Mystic Metallics Eyeshadow Palette in 'Bonne Etoile'. Those of you who didn't get your hands on this one really missed out, and for that I'm sorry.

The star-embossed eyeshadow palette is a thing of beauty. The eyeshadows themselves have an eye-brightening, metallic finish and seem to work equally well with or without primer. (I would expect nothing less from Dior.)

However, what tickles me most about 5 Couleurs Mystic Metallics is that this is the first eyeshadow palette to knock me out of my "cat eye or neutral shadow worn with a bold lip" makeup routine of late. These colours—moss, light pink, green, teal, bronze—aren't meant to be worn together in one perfectly colour-coordinated, contoured look. Instead, each shade invites playfulness, whimsy, imagination.

The possibilities are endless. Blend the bronze shade in the corners of the eyes and along the crease, and apply the light pink shade to the centre of the lid for subtle, gleaming definition. Wear the moss over smudged black liner for a twist on the smoky eye. Apply a sheer wash of green or teal to lids. It's enough to get me excited about eyeshadow again. This particular Mystic Metallics eyeshadow palette is no longer available sadly, but you can check for the rest of the Dior Mystic Metallics fall/winter 2013 collection at Dior counters.

In the meantime, I've just gotten a look at the October launches and the holiday collection. Just beautiful. I promise to actually share them with you while they're available for purchase. Trust.
