Latest Outfit: #everydaymadewell

#everydaymadewell casual outfit

You know how some style experts say most people wear 20% of their wardrobe 80% of the time? Lately, I feel like that 20% is made up exclusively of Madewell. This is not a sponsored post at all, but rather a testament to how much I love the brand for its wear-all-the-time cardigans, classic-with-a-twist tees, well-fitting jeans, versatile ankle boots...the list goes on.

Latest Outfit: Palm Print Romper

Featured on zulily.com

Casual summer style: palm print romper, denim jacket, white statement necklace. oversize sunnies

Whoa, an outfit post after three weeks of radio silence! I'll admit, I was so relaxed after our trip to Washington and Virginia that I wanted to let the post-vacation buzz linger for another week instead of stressing out about getting back to the blog right away.

Latest Outfit: Spring Daze & My New Dream Wardrobe (P.S. It's Not What You Think)

Casual outfit inspo: Cropped denim jacket, little white dress, crossbody bag, Keds sneakers

First off, thanks for all the words of support on this post—and via Twitter and Instagram—on our decision to postpone the wedding. I'm not gonna lie, it was a difficult choice to make. But once we decided to do it, we both felt a sense of deep relief and renewed simplicity. The past few weeks have been filled with a whole lot of nothing: going for long walks in the sunshine and getting ice cream; attending Bar Method (me) and kickboxing (him); and focusing on work, which has kept us both pretty busy. That probably explains why we've left filing our income taxes until the eleventh hour. (Oops.)

Latest Outfit: Dressed Up Sweatpants & A Big Announcement

Dress up sweatpants with a blazer, glitzy statement necklace and sharp oxfords.

Oh hey, it's been a while since my last outfit post, hasn't it? The boy and I have been dealing with some personal stuff the past couple months, hence the erratic posting lately and the announcement I'm about to make.

Hello and happy Monday, dear readers! Apologies for the radio silence after the Bridal Style update last week. I ended up spending Monday and Tuesday sick at home with chills and a constant on-and-off migraine. Add wedding stuff and getting hooked onto the Korean drama Fated to Love You on Netflix into the mix, and well, my blog productivity pretty much plummeted for the rest of the week.

Most days outfit photos take a matter of minutes to snap, but yesterday was another story. Everything seemed off somehow: the angles, the setting, the lighting, the composition. My hair was flipping out weirdly at the ends. The area we were shooting in was very high-traffic, so we constantly had to wait for people to move out of frame before proceeding and I felt awkwardly self-conscious the entire time.

Latest Outfit: The New Uniform

Burnt sienna overcoat, Breton stripes with gold polka dots, jeans, Chanel 2.55, black tassel loafers

The wedding seemed so far away when we were on the other side of 2015, toasting Christmas and the New Year, saying smugly to ourselves, "Oh, it's not for another 9 months!" But the truth is we are already well into 2015 and the first half of January is already gone. That in itself is making me anxious as it's given me a taste of how quickly the next 8 months will slip by. Suddenly it's imperative that we send out our save-the-dates, and there's the guest list to finalize, and my future sister-in-law is asking if I'm planning to have a rehearsal dinner. What's more, the everyday stuff—like the boy's school and salsa team, and my blog—seem to be keeping us busier than ever.

The first week of January back from the holidays always feels bittersweet. I miss the relaxed pace of my winter break, but I'm glad to be getting back into the swing of things with a clear head and refreshed spirit and this last week felt like a good warm-up act for the rest of the year, very productive and quiet. Plus, I've been sleeping well every night. That's probably pretty boring, but to this semi-chronic insomniac it's a big deal!

Happy 2015 everyone! Hope you all had a great holiday. We spent the weekend squeezing in as much down time as possible before the new year revs up. These last few vacation days have been so wonderful, returning to work and packing away the Christmas decorations definitely feel bittersweet. The last couple of days, I've been bundled up in some variation of the outfit above (love my new hat with the giant fur pouf!), trying my best to stay warm and comfy during a cold snap, as I reflect on 2014 and look ahead.

Holiday casual in all black with a classic trench and tartan blanket scarf

I'm winding down the year with a little blogging break so I can fully immerse myself in holiday festivities, and enjoy time with friends and family! In the meantime, here's a look back at my favourite style posts of 2014. My style has simplified signficantly compared to previous years—whether because of busy schedules or the influence of normcore, I can't decide. Click the photos to jump directly to the posts. Latest Outfit: Sparkly & Bright

Holiday party outfit: little black lace dress
H&M dress (similar) | Swarovski earrings & bracelet (c/o) | Saint Laurent 'Belle de Jour' clutch (similar) | Madewell heels | Lips: Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy 'Confident'

Between Christmas presents and saving for next year's wedding, I've been trying my best to shop my closet when it comes to holiday party looks. That meant this oldie-but-a-goodie little black dress made an appearance when the boy and I went for a romantic dinner Saturday night. Its classic style and versatile silhouette can be dressed up in a number of ways, but this time around, I was really eager to pair it with my new Swarovski baubles and particularly the earrings. The leaf-shaped stones swirled with my every movement and complemented the lace pattern of my dress; they really make a statement with their sparkle and glimmer of blue! They're pretty much the perfect statement earring for the holiday season and—dare I say it—the "something blue" on a bride's wedding day.

Latest Outfit: The Perfect "Get Stuff Done" Holiday Look

Holiday casual in all black with a classic trench and tartan blanket scarf

Sometimes a girl needs a look that lets her roll out of bed and out the door in less than half an hour, and that's especially true during the holiday season when a hectic schedule might shift into overdrive with shopping, parties, and entertaining. I wore this while running errands yesterday when it was unseasonably warm and thought to myself, Now this is "effortlessly put together." The black sweater dress and leggings were as comfy as my favourite flannel PJs, while the trench and tartan blanket scarf kept me cozy without letting me overheat. Berry lips, tassel loafers, and a luxe handbag finished the look with just a touch more polish.

Latest Outfit: Getting Festive With Bootlegger

Holiday party ready in slouchy trousers, stiletto booties and a patterned top
Bootlegger top, pants, and necklace (c/o) | Prada booties (old, but these Saint Laurent ones are just as classic) | Lipstick: Tom Ford 'Bruised Plum'

Well, here it is, the second part of my collaboration with Bootlegger! This time around, participating bloggers were asked to style a holiday party look using some of the dressier pieces from the store's offerings. Their holiday Temperance collection is gorgeous as usual (I wore one of their dresses to the boy's office Christmas party last year), but this time around I found myself being more drawn to the effortless chic of a dressy top and slouchy trousers. With suede stiletto booties the look is dressy enough for a party at a downtown hotel, but it's also just as appropriate for a low-key dinner party at home. The necklace picks up on the gold and sequin details in the patterned top, and adds just enough sparkle for a festive vibe.

Latest Outfit: Getting Cozy With Bootlegger (Plus $300 Giveaway!)

Pattern-mixing and cozy layers with Bootlegger

You may remember me cryptically alluding to a special holiday collaboration with Bootlegger a couple weeks ago; I was asked to style two looks—one cozy, one holiday—and co-host a giveaway alongside two other bloggers. Well, I'm so happy that the time to share the cozy look and the giveaway has arrived. More photos and details (plus a chance to win a $300 gift card) after the jump!

Last week was filled with ups and downs. Ups: Having Remembrance Day off and spending most of it with the boy; finally getting to see Gone Girl and Interstellar; resuming wedding planning; crisp, clear, sunny weather. Downs: Too much to do; not enough exercise; having a full week's worth of work was crammed into a scant four days; congestion that never seems to go away and persistent fatigue; the dry air that has me reaching for my go-to moisturizing products of the season. When things get this busy, I love having essentials I can count on without fail. Sweaters, skinny denim, and ankle boots have become my uniform, spiced up with a new scarf, quilted leather gloves, and moisturizing fuchsia lipstick.

Latest Outfit: Statement Coat & Silver Loafers

Statement black and grey coat

Here at Solo Lisa headquarters, it's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. I spent part of the weekend working on a fun holiday collaboration with Bootlegger that will be going live very soon, but for now, I just wanted to share this black-and-grey swing coat which I've been wearing non-stop for the last week. It's gotten compliments from my drycleaner to my coworkers, many of whom gaped in disbelief when I told them where it was from.

Latest Outfit: Borrowed From The Boys

Brighten up a neutral fall/winter look with a tartan scarf and colourful coat

Like many women, I harbour fantasies about "borrowing" my significant other's clothes and looking sexily tomboyish in them. But in reality, with the boy being a full head taller and much bigger than my petite frame, the only thing I can feasibly swipe is this plaid scarf. That's why I was ecstatic to find this menswear-inspired shirt on our trip to San Francisco. The cuffs, collar, tails, and fabric make it look as though it was borrowed from the boys. The way it fits in all the right places, and looks oversized but never overwhelming, makes it utterly perfect. I wore it yesterday with my blue winter coat, skinny black cuffed denim, and silver loafers—a polished-but-effortless combo for running errands and making the most of Daylight Savings.

Latest Outfit: Sunday Afternoon Walk

Casual, effortless weekend layering
Madewell jacket and jeans | Kate Spade Saturday hoodie (similar) | Club Monaco tee (similar) | ALDO boots | Maison Birks earrings | Beausoleil glasses | Nails: Dior Vernis Gel 'Rose Tutu'

After feeling under the weather most of last week, the cold that was threatening to overtake me finally broke. Friday and Saturday were spent at home in my cake flannel pajamas, sleeping and consuming as much soup, tea, and OJ as possible. By Sunday though, I felt pretty stir-crazy after being cooped up in the condo for 2 days. I bundled on whatever layers were close at hand and the boy and I ventured out for brunch and a walk, during which these photos were taken. The day was perfect: crisp fall air, pale sunshine, brilliant foliage all around. I'm still not completely better, but I'm convinced the fresh air did me a world of good.

Latest Outfit: Dish Denim & Life Simplified

Black moto jacket and grey skinny jeans
Zara jacket | J. Crew tee | Dish jeans (c/o) | Aldo shoes | Beausoleil glasses |
Lips: Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy 'Thrilling'

I'm always looking for ways to streamline my life when things get really busy, and this is doubly true when getting dressed. This outfit is a prime example of all my favourite style shortcuts. Glasses instead of contacts: check. Basic white tee: check. A jacket that makes everything else look put together (in this case, a black moto): check. Tassel loafers that are as comfy as sneakers, but look a notch dressier: check. Berry lips: check.

Latest Outfit: Fall Colours & Giving Thanks

Fall layering

Yesterday was the sort of grey autumn day that makes small pleasures like cozy knits and hot tea more keenly felt. I finally got to bust out my burnt orange cardigan in a layered look that perfectly matched the fall leaves at the local park. As soon as the boy and I wrapped up these outfit shots, we went for brunch and a walk before heading to his parents' place for Thanksgiving dinner.
